Kremlin Says Russia-Afghanistan Ties Are Strong, Seeks Deeper Engagement

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has stated in an interview with Indian media that current relations between Russia and Afghanistan are “strong” and that Moscow seeks to further strengthen these ties.

Peskov emphasized the importance of dialogue with the current authorities in Afghanistan, noting that Russia needs to engage with the Taliban administration to manage regional affairs.

He believes that Russia and Afghanistan share common regional interests, which is why Moscow plans to deepen its contacts with Afghanistan.

These comments from the Kremlin come as the Taliban-led administration has yet to gain international recognition. Many countries, including Russia, have not formally recognized the Taliban government. Nonetheless, the continuation of bilateral interactions without considering the will of the Afghan people remains a point of concern.
